On
November 4 & 5, 2006 David C. Lam Christian Hymn Society (DCLCHS)
presented their 10th Traditional Hymn Sing-along in Vancouver’s
Broadway Church and Abbotsford’s Sevenoaks Alliance Church.
The theme of this sing-along is “ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’
NAME” and over 1,600 participants joined DCLCHS
SINGERS, SINFONIA MOSAIC , organist AY-LAUNG
WANG
and conductor HERBERT TSANG in their first evening in
Vancouver, BC, and about
another 600 joined them in Abbotsford, BC. Other
special musical
guests include mezzo-soprano BONNIE DODDS and LIVING
WORD MEN’S ENSEMBLE.
In
order to promote traditional hymns, since 2002, DCLCHS has
been organizing hymn singing festivals in the Province of British
Colombia. As a continue effort in presenting traditional hymns
in a refresh way, DCLCHS has been commissioning different composer/arranger
to arrange music for these sing-alongs. In particular, CHI
CHUEN CHIU from Alliance Bible Seminary has been
commissioned to
arrange the hymn “ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME” for
this sing-along.
Another
special segment of this sing-along was in the presentation of the hymn
“AMAZING GRACE” in five different languages: Korean,
Chinese, Japanese, Welsh and German by five different singers.
Audience has found this segment to be a good reminder for them about the Inter-Generational and Cross-Cultural
aspect of hymns.
At
each of the sing-along, a live recording of the event will be
recorded and release in the subsequent sing-along. On that
evening, the CD “SHOWERS OF BLESSING” from DCLCHS 9th
sing-along was also released.
DCLCHS
has planned the next sing-along to be held in June 2007, hope
