Celebrating
300th Anniversary of Charles Wesley's Birth (1707-1788)
As a part of DCLCHS' celebration for 300th
anniversary of Charles Wesley's birth and support of
congregational singing, we are seeking newly composed,
unpublished musical scores for hymns. A panel of judges will
select the winner's composition to be featured at a special
DCLCHS 11th sing-along concert with congregation participation
on June 2, 2007.
The terms & conditions of the
hymn tune competition
The
composer may select freely any hymn written by Charles
Wesley as the text of the composed music.
The hymn
shall be composed in four-part harmony (SATB) and intended
for congregational singing. It may also be a thoroughly
composed arrangement, preferably with the entire numbers of
stanzas in English as originally written.
The level
of difficultly shall be appropriate for general
congregational singing with some practice or familiarity.
Although the intent of our search is to find hymns that
would be immediately usable in the context of Christian
worship, we encourage a certain degree of challenge and
innovation.
The
composed music should not have been previously published (in
print or electronically) or recognized in another
competition. Preference will be given to newer works
composed within the last four years.
Submissions
should include
