DAVID
C. LAM CHRISTIAN HYMN SOCIETY ANNOUNCE INTERNATIONAL HYMN TUNE
COMPETITION WINNERS
Vancouver,
BC (May 16, 2007) – As a part of David C. Lam Christian Hymn Society’s
(DCLCHS) celebration for 300th anniversary of Charles Wesley's
birth and support of congregational singing, DCLCHS seeks newly
composed, unpublished musical scores for hymns using any hymn
text written by Charles Wesley.
The panel of juries consisting of three
distinguished members of the worship, Hymnology and church music
communities are: CARL P. DAW Jr. (USA) - Executive Director of
the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada; HERBERT TSANG
(Canada) - Music Director of David C. Lam Christian Hymn Society
and DAVID P. L. YEUNG (Hong Kong) - Director-in-Chief of the
World Association for Chinese Church Music.
There were total 41 compositions submitted by
composers from around the world. Each composition was evaluated
anonymously and independently by each member of the jury. DCLCHS
announce the results of the hymn tune competition as
follows:
1st prize –
“Come, let us rise with Christ our Head” by ADAM SCHWAMB
(Canaan,
New Hampshire,
USA)
2nd prize
– “Rejoice, the Lord is King” by REUBEN CHEUNG (Burnaby,
BC, Canada)
3rd prize
– “A Charge to Keep I have” by JENNY LEE (Richmond,
BC, Canada)
Also, three honorable mention compositions are also
being acknowledged:
“Love
Divine, All Loves Excelling” by GREG SCHEER (Grand
Rapids, Michigan,
USA)
“Love
Divine” by SIGVALD TVEIT (Oslo,
Norway)
“All
ye that Pass By” by DAVID L. WARD (Minnetonka,
Minnesota,
USA)
The winning compositions will be featured at the
DCLCHS 11th sing-along concert "Rejoice, The Lord Is
King" with congregation participation on June
2, 2007 at BroadwayChurch,
Vancouver,
BC,
Canada.
